Created in connection with the Wonder Mountain Open Source Space residency in Wonder Valley, California, each work explores the intersections of ancestral geology, botanical science, traditional technology, and somatic presence.
Emily’s paints are hand-milled from ethically harvested local mineral specimens—including lilac rhyolites, vesicular basalt, red hematite, prismatic quartz, and sun-baked ochres—and experimentally bound in traditional and holistic ways; using organic mediums: clay gouache, native plant dyes, flower essences, and harvested Mojave rainwater.
The resulting compositions echo the terrain’s subtle shifts, carrying the desert’s raw spirit and ancient presence into spatial form.

Open Studio 2026:Highway 62 Art Tours
Join artist Emily Baker in rural Wonder Valley on the first three weekends in October for an open studio, live hand-milling, and an exhibition of select large-scale works on linen and cotton, studies on paper, and found object dimensional works.
Created in connection with the Wonder Mountain Open Source Space residency, this body of work bridges personal mythology with primordial storytelling through a sustainable studio practice. Each work is produced with hand-milled paints using minerals found in the Mojave Salt River Mountains, clay gouache, native plant dyes, flower essences, rainwater, and woven textile structures.
